Netflix Lands on the PS3

What a suprise, eh? It's quite the surprise that today Netflix announced that it will be making it's way onto the PlayStation 3. No official launch date has been announced; however, next month PS3 owners will be able to access the functionality on the system for free and stream their favorite movies for only $8.99 a month. Sounds like a sweet deal!

According to the press release, Nextflix is really excited to roll this functionality out: "'As instantly watching movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix becomes an increasingly popular way to enjoy the Netflix service, our goal is to rapidly expand the devices that stream to our members,' said Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings. 'As a leading game console and Blu-ray disc player, bringing Netflix to the PS3 system is a real win for both Netflix members and PS3 system owners.'"

I'll keep you guys posted. :)

iPhone 3.1 Should Have Been 3.0.2?

Media_httpwwwiphonestalkcomimagesiphone31jpg_xdgsavfjkaebmjs

It seems like Apple has been dropping the ball lately. Has their increased popularity finally caught up to them? As you know, their latest Mac OS "Snow Leopard" has left many hardcore Mac users viewing it as a mere service pack; and that has some truth to it. iPhone 3.1 is no different. It features a few new features like genius app recommendations, genius mixes, wireless ringtone downloads, etc. These small little tweaks aren't that significant to allow the transition from 3.0.1 to 3.1. Why? Because those genius features don't really enhance your listening experience and ringtone download capabilities should have already been a feature back in the iPhone 1.0 days. It just bugs me how Apple is just slacking this past year on all of their products.

Anyone else have their opinion on this?

PS: I like iTunes 9. Just because the UI looks better. Functionality didn't move me.

GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony

I can't wait for this DLC to be launched in October. I'll be picking up the physical copy, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which will contain The Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony in one package release. Who is Gay Tony? Is the main character Puerto Rican? (Hence: Ay Mami, por favor!) Again, this DLC will be an XBOX Live exclusive. Thank God I picked up my new XBOX 360 Elite. ;)

Side note: I love how Rockstar keeps releasing these DLCs and portable spin-offs without over-saturating the market with the GTA brand. I think DLC keeps the brand fresh instead of releasing a new physical game every 1-2 years.

Metal Gear Solid 4's File Size Proves a Future in Blu-ray

Media_httpuploadwikimediaorgwikipediaen44bmgs4uscoversmalljpg_qehmkfcjmjrteud

I was reading my RSS feeds again today when I ran across this article. They started to talk about how much space MGS4 takes up on a Blu-ray disc and, to my surprise, it takes up approximately 33.2 GB of a 50 GB Blu-ray disc. Unbelievable. MGS4 is a great game and the cut scenes really give the feeling of a movie. If you don't own it yet, then you should go out and buy it (hint: it's under $30!)

This is why I'm worried about the Metal Gear Solid franchise going multiplatform for the PS3 and the XBOX 360. The 360 only uses dual-layer DVDs which can hold approximately 8 GB in content. If the new game is going to be anything like MGS4 then I'm expecting a lot of compressed content and multiple DVDs for Microsoft's competing system. DVDs are limited and dying, Blu-ray is the future and is rapidly expanding (some Blu-ray discs can hold over 100 GB of content!)

Patiently Waiting For Heavy Rain

It's been reported that Quantic Dream's "Heavy Rain: The Oragami Killer", a PS3 exclusive that debuted in 2006, has been set for a release sometime in 2010. I honestly cannot wait for this title. The graphics are amazing. Many might see it as a shame, but you must realize that Sony wants to release a line of major titles when XBOX 360 exclusive competing titles are set to drop in the same time frame. I see a big negative reaction -- there shouldn't be. Q4 of 2009 has many great exclusive titles coming; has everyone forgotten about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves? It's worth the wait. Let's watch the early development trailer, shall we?

I <3 LittleBigPlanet

Simply amazing. I've owned this game for one day and it's just pure fun. Many games this generation cannot have great graphics and great gameplay all in one, LittleBigPlanet overcomes this. The Sackboys (and girls) are just cute and very customizable as you can change and make your own costumes at any time. This game can literally be played by any person of any age. The online game play is awesome and a lot of the people I've encountered online are pretty friendly, so far. LittleBigPlanet has so much downloadable content from the PlayStation Store to make the fun endless. It's pretty addicting and I haven't been addicted to a video game since my pre-adolescent years back in the 1990s. If you don't have a PlayStation 3, LittleBigPlanet could be the reason why you buy one.

I'll be buying some extra controllers to invite friends and family over. :)

My final verdict: 5/5 stars.

Tomb Raider Leaked Photos; Jennifer Lopez?

Media_httpassetsvg247comcurrent200907laracroftrumorjpg_zeerfbabhbcasij

Earlier today, I was checking my RSS feeds and I came across this rumored news post. Apparently, Tomb Raider is changing completely; that means a possible character change/revamp. From the image above, it looks like Jennifer Lopez... don't you think? That would be awesome... a Puerto Rican Laura Croft.

If you missed it, you missed out. It looks like the leaked images were taken down after a nice legal e-mail was sent to the original news poster.
